List of available GPU transitions

Updated

MFormats SDK and MPlatform SDK include GPU-based transitions for playlist and mixer workflows. These transitions are intended for switching from one video source to another and are processed on the GPU when the GPU pipeline is enabled.

The original CPU transition list is available here: List of available transitions.

GPU transitions listed below that are not present in the original CPU transition list were added starting from SDK version 2.11.1.14806.

Enable GPU processing

MFFactoryClass factory = new MFFactoryClass();
factory.PropsSet("gpu_pipeline", "true");

Transition syntax

A transition can be set by name. Some transitions support parameters in parentheses. Multiple parameters should be written together without separators.

Transition=wheel(spokes='8')
Transition=checkerboard(squaresX='8'squaresY='6')
Transition=circle(smoothness='0.2'centerX='0.5'centerY='0.5')

Parameters are expected to stay constant during a single transition. Changing non-time parameters on every frame may force shader recompilation.

If a transition name is missing or unsupported, the transition falls back to fade. Some transitions use many texture samples. For high-resolution production workflows, test performance with the target GPU and output format.

Get available transitions from code

You can get the list of transitions supported by the Video SDK using the MFFactoryClass object. First, call TransitionGetCount to get the total number of available transitions. Then, use TransitionGetByIndex for each item. This method returns the transition name and its default parameters. The returned values can be used to fill transition and parameter controls in your application.

MFFactoryClass factory = new MFFactoryClass();

factory.TransitionGetCount(out int _pnCount);

for (int i = 0; i < _pnCount; i++)
{
    m_objMFactory.TransitionGetByIndex(
        i,
        out string _pbsName,
        out string _pbsDefaultParams);
}

The _pbsName variable contains the transition name. The _pbsDefaultParams variable contains its default parameter string. If a transition does not have custom parameters, _pbsDefaultParams can be empty. This approach is recommended when the available transition list may depend on the installed SDK version.
